The success of the programme was evidenced through measured behaviour change amongst employees with tens of thousands of employees engaged. The communication strategy and Think Privacy communications have been adopted and rolled out by multiple Barclays brands in many languages, from Canary Wharf to Calcutta!!

Given the success of Think Privacy at Barclays, significant interest was generated amongst its peers in a wide range of industry sectors. Viewing data privacy and information security risk as non-competitive areas, Barclays generously decided to share the approach, strategy and collateral of Think Privacy under an innovative ‘open source’ membership agreement.

In January 2010 Barclays, Visa Europe, HSBC, Deloitte, Serco plc, Lloyds Banking Group and blue goose (the communications agency who co-developed Think Privacy with Barclays) founded The Think Privacy Consortium as a forum and focus for sharing best practice in engaging employees in their data privacy and information security responsibilities.

Since then, the founder members have been joined by Old Mutual Group, UBS and RBS.
